Liên Sơn Parish Project

Overview
Liên Sơn Parish in Vietnam is home to approximately 4,000 people, including both Catholic and non-Catholic families. The parish is divided into two areas:
• Liên Sơn 1 – primarily Kinh families
• Liên Sơn 2 – primarily Raglai ethnic minority families
While both areas face challenges, the Raglai community in Liên Sơn 2 experiences significant economic hardship, with many families lacking access to basic living conditions such as stable housing and sanitation.

Father Duy Nguyen began serving at Liên Sơn Parish in 2025, where he quickly recognized significant unmet needs among children and families in the community. In response, he started a weekly meal program providing food to approximately 300 Sunday school students. Some children had been experiencing such severe food insecurity that they would occasionally faint during class.

In addition, Father Duy provides monthly food assistance to around 60 families in need. These efforts are currently funded entirely from his personal resources, reflecting his deep commitment to serving the most vulnerable members of his community.

The Liên Sơn Parish Project is a long-term effort to support this community by building essential infrastructure, improving daily living conditions, and creating a central space for gathering and support.

Our Approach
We begin with what is available — and build step by step. At the heart of this project is a small piece of land where a Marian statue already stands, allowing the parish community to gather without restriction. From this starting point, we aim to gradually develop a space that supports both community life and essential needs.

This project is not about rapid expansion, but about sustainable, meaningful progress.

2026 Project Goals

1. Community Land & Gathering Space
To create a safe and central place for the parish community, we plan to secure and develop 670 m² of land.

This includes:
• Purchase of land (270 m²) – $11,500
• Relocation of 3 families currently living on-site:
Construction of 3 basic homes – $15,000 total
Replacement land for each family – $17,400 total
• Land preparation and leveling – $4,000

This space will serve as a gathering point for community activities, children's programs, and future development of parish life.

2. Sanitation Support
Many families currently live without access to basic toilets. We plan to build 10 toilets for families in urgent need at a total cost of $6,000.

This directly improves health, dignity, and quality of life.

3. Monthly Support for the Most Vulnerable
We will provide ongoing support to 60 families who are elderly, sick, and do not have relative who can support them. Each month, families receive essential food and supplies. Total monthly cost: ~$700.

4. Weekly Meals for Children
To support children in the parish, we provide 300 meals every Sunday. Monthly cost: ~$400.

This helps improve nutrition and encourage participation in community activities.

Total Estimated Budget (2026)
$55,000 – $60,000 USD

Transparency Commitment
At VSV, we are committed to complete transparency: Donations are allocated to specific project components, updates include photos and reports, and spending is documented.

Why This Matters
This project begins with very limited resources but strong commitment. For many families in Liên Sơn, even small improvements like a stable home or access to sanitation can make a meaningful difference. Progress may be gradual, but it is real and lasting.

Your support can help make these efforts possible. Every contribution helps move this project forward — step by step — toward a stronger and more supported parish community.
